Assessment for Psychological Pain in Depression
What is this study about?
Dr. Steven Mee, M.D., in association with Dr. Christopher Reist, M.D. and
Dr. William Bunney, M.D., is conducting a research study which may help to
identify a core symptom of depression, called psychological pain, and measure
this using a newly designed psychological pain scale at the Long Beach VA
Medical Center.
Who would qualify?
- Individuals who have had more than one of these symptoms for two weeks
- Appetite change, weight loss of gain
- Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
- Trouble sitting still
- Talking slower than usual
- Moving slower than usual
- Loss of energy
- Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
- Difficulty concentrating
- Difficulty making decisions
- Feelings of helplessness or hopelessness
- Thoughts of death or even suicide
What if my family does not live near any of the schools listed?
- In some cases we will be able to provide transportation and/or lodging for family members who do not live near any of the testing sites.
What do you have to do?
- Interview - (1 hour)
- A complete diagnostic interview
- Assessments - (1 hour)
- Complete 5 psychological rating scales
- Evaluation of past psychiatric history
Compensation?
- We pay $15 per hour and will reimburse you for travel related costs
